We can understand, then, why many scholars call Romans a “dialogue with Judaism.”105 But to make the relationship between the two peoples—Jews and Gentiles—the theme of Romans, with the transformation of the individual a subordinate concept, is to reverse their relationship in the logic of Paul’s gospel.106 The gospel provides salvation for “everyone who believes”—it is first and foremost
